| Artist Biography: |
| Charles Watelet was a painter of portraits and genre scenes. He received his artistic training at the Academy of Brussels under Jean Portaels and Alfred Stevens. He painted portraits of many prominent figures, he moved from Marcinelle to Uccle in Brussels. Watelet specialised himself in depicting the female portrait and became famous for his oeuvre. He also painted women at social scenes such as bals, theatres and restaurants. |
