Léon DEVOS ( 1897 - 1974 )

Léon Devos was a Post-Impressionist painter of nudes, portraits, landscapes, interiors, still lifes and flowers. He received his artistic education at the Academy of Mons and at the Academy of Brussels under the tutorship of Jean Delville and Constant Montald. Devos was a founding member of the artistic group "Nervia". An important series of his nudes where displayed at the first exhibition of the Nervia group in 1928. He became a teacher as well as director of the Academy of Brussels in 1948. He obtained many prizes and achievements, including the "Prix du Hainaut" in 1932 and the "Carnegie Garden Club Prize" in 1950. Devos became a member of the "Royal Belgian Academy" in 1957. A retrospective exhibition of his works was held in Namur in 1967.
